Abstract

According to Indian philosophy, the Trigunas (Sattva, which represents knowledge, Rajas, which represents activity, and Tamas, which represents sloth) are the source of the personality. The personality features of an individual are determined by the predominance of a certain guna. Every action and behaviour, in fact, may be categorised as a representative of one of the three gunas. Cognition is a mental process that allows an individual's internal and external behaviour to be comprehended. As a result, the current study work is an attempt to look at the differences in short-term memory amongst the three Gunas. On the basis of gender, age range, and socioeconomic position, a sample of 100 respondents was randomly selected from Collage of Agra and surrounding places. Gunas were measured using Das's (1991) 'Gita Inventory of Personality' and Asthana's (1982) 'Short Term Memory'. The t-test is used to determine the difference. The results of this study demonstrate that the 't'-values of Short Term Memory between Sattva and Rajas gunas (t=3.35), Rajas and Tamas gunas (t=5.01), and Sattva and Tamas gunas (t=7.95) are significant at the 0.01(p, 0.01) level. It demonstrates that Gunas cause a considerable variation in Short Term Memory
