Development And Validity Of A Teacher Aptitude Test

Published 2021-10-01

Abstract

Developing and presenting the validity evidence of a Teacher Aptitude Test that could be used as one of the admission requirements in the College of Education of the University of Eastern Philippines Campus is the main goal of this research. The development of the test followed 3 stages: the construction stage, examination stage, and analysis stage. The result of the item analysis of the test revealed that 91 items passed both the criteria for difficulty index and discrimination index and 25 items passed only one criterion and were revised. On the other hand, 84 or 42% of the items were rejected. A total of 116 items are valid based on the result of the item analysis. Of these, the 100 items were selected that comprised the final format of the Teacher Aptitude Test. The result of the Confirmatory Factor Analysis suggested that the six-factor model represents a good fit to the responses of the respondents to the 100-item TAT which means that the measurement model fits the data well, and the model provides evidence of the construct validity. As to the criterion validity, the instrument is valid as shown in the analysis that there was a positive significant correlation between the two test scores compared. The developed Teacher Aptitude was deemed as a valid and reliable test, but it still needs to be standardized if to be used for admission purposes. Administering the test to a large and similar norming group and establishing the local norms using other statistics are necessary to standardize the test.
