Intelligent Greenhouse Monitoring and Controlling By Using Python on Raspberry Pi

Published 2021-09-20

Abstract

As India is an agricultural country, it produces huge agricultural products. But the problem raises with need of unseasonal food products throughout the year. For this availability of unseasonal agricultural products like fruits and vegetables throughout the year the greenhouse structures are being designed. Greenhouse maintenance is a tough job for both owner and the labors, as a special and continuous care need to be taken in maintaining climate parameters like temperature, humidity, soil moisture, light intensity, and carbon dioxide. This makes the greenhouse results in huge loss and very low yield and productivity. As Embedded Systems and IOT are used to finding a solution for this problem, IOT is the latest and most usable information technology used throughout the world for Global cloud connectivity. Embedded system is good at management of sensors and controlling the actuators and devices. In this proposed prototype we are combining the embedded systems with the IOT for automatic monitoring and controlling of the greenhouse without any human interference. For this system we are using Raspberry Pi3 as controller and sensors as inputs with threshold values for temperature, humidity, light intensity, soil moisture and carbon dioxide. When threshold values are crossed then the controlling of the climatic parameters is done and data is stored in ThingSpeak cloud technology and information is sent to the owner through GSM. A Pi camera is also placed in prototype in order to see the field of greenhouse when needed. So this results in automatic monitoring and controlling without human interference and results increased crop yield.
