A Study To Assess The Effectiveness Of Structured Teaching Programme On Immunization Schedule Among The Mothers Of Under Five Children In Selected Area In Sanarpalayam, Namakkal District

Abstract

Children are one third of our population and all of our futures but unfortunately the gift of health which makes the child to be part of future is affected by so many disease conditions. We can prevent the disease and safe guard the child life through improving maternal knowledge regarding immunization. AIM: To evaluate the effectiveness of structure teaching programme regarding immunization schedule among the mothers of under five children. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Research approach adopted for this study was quantitative evaluative approach and the Research design was quasi experimental one group pre test and post test study. A total 50 mothers of under five children were selected by Non probability purposive sampling technique. The data was collected by using the demographic proforma and self structured questionnaire. The reliability of the tool was tested by split half method and the score was r=0.74.RESULTS: Pre-test and post- test knowledge scores revealed that during pre-test, the mean score 13.5±4.05 (SD) which is 45% of the total mean score, whereas in post-test, the mean score was 24.5± 5.03(SD) which is 81% of the total mean score depicting difference of 36% increase in mean percentage of score. The calculated  ‘t’ value 19.65 which is  higher than  the P<0.05 ,states that highly significant  difference between the pre-test and post-test. It study result had concluded that the structured teaching programme was highly effective to improve the  knowledge regarding immunization schedule among mothers of under five children.
