Abstract

Hydrolysis is an important chemical reaction with water both in acidic and alkaline environment. The test of hydrolysis of Atrazine witnessed fall in Active Ingredient content by hydrolysis found to be 30.04 % in acidic buffer (pH 4.0) and the same was found to be 8.22 %  in neutral (7.0 pH) and 6.27 % in alkaline (9.0 pH) test media after 5 days during pre-test at 50ºC. Following the results of pre-test, definitive experiment was carried out at 35±0.5ºC and 50±0.5ºC to assess the hydrolytic metabolism of Atrazine wherein the reaction was monitored for the potential hydrolysis products i.e. Atrazine desethyl, 2-hydroxy Atrazine and Atrazine desisopropyl. The metabolite, 2-hydroxy Atrazine was identified against its reference standard and was quantified during the entire hydrolysis experiment which is a human and marine xenobiotic metabolite and is devoid of phytotoxic property.
