Abstract

With certain inherent benefits over AC transmission systems, High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) systems have been used as an alternate means of transmitting electric power. The converter used to change the current from one form to another is a major factor in the efficiency and rated power carrying capability of direct current transmission lines (AC to DC and vice versa). In addition to improving power transmission capacities and dependability by providing high fault tolerance along the line, a properly built converter also lowers harmonics. Examining how well VSC technology does when run alongside LCC technology is the primary goal of this article. Using the PSCAD simulation software, a detailed EMT model of the system was created. All three HVDC Back-to-Back converters and the HVAC system on each side are shown in this model. System behavior during and after AC failures is described. According to the findings, using VSC technology for dynamic voltage support is beneficial.
