Economic Problem of the Labour Class People as Reflected in the Songs of Dr.Bhupen Hazarika : A Study

Abstract

Dr.Bhupen Hazarika,widely known as ‘Sudhakantha’,is the eternal icon of Assam or Indian national life. A clear reflection of the socio-cultural lifestyle and economic status of India and specially of Assam is always peculiar in almost all of his songs. His songs are replete with the themes like canmunal amity, class discrimination, life struggle of the labour class people, poverty in human life and bare image of the oppressed and the oppressor. He devoted all of his songs towards humanity and so worshipped globally. People are his prime concern while creating songs. The economic conditions of the oppressed, deprived and exploited people of society led him to compose many songs. Besides being portraying the problemic situation of those people Bhupen Hazarikaeven tried his best for the upliftment oftheir poor condition which is peculiar in many lyrics of his songs.
