Abstract

India, despite progressive development over the past three decades, is lagging behind in gender equality. It lists 131 of the 188 countries in the U.N. Development Program's Gender Inequality Index. Dowry, female genital mutilation and women's education are problems that persist despite decades of government efforts to address them. India's problems are not limited to the villages and the illiterate - the behavior of critics who talk about sexism shows how deep these attitudes are. A sample of young Indian women, modern - will be about women's ideas, despite calling themselves female fans. What we hear about Indian women is disturbing.
