Abstract
An ideal contraceptive agent is one which possess 100% efficacy, reversibility of action, which is free from side effects and is easy to use.The whole plant of Hemidesmus indicus was collected from local areas of Rajasthan. Then the selected medicinal plant was subjected to size reduction and finally uniform powder was subjected to standardization with different parameters. Phytochemical screening was carried out to identify carbohydrates, proteins, steroids, amino acids, flavonoids, alkaloids, tannins and phenolic compounds test, vitamins, glycosides and triterpenoids. The present work validates 100% abortive effect of ethanol extract of stem bark of Hemidesmus indicus at a dose of 100mg/kg body weight.
