Abstract
This paper is part of a research project (GV/2021/126 Implementation of the STEM educational approach to competence development, EDUSTEM) has been funded by the Valencian Government's Ministry of Innovation, Universities, Science and Digital Society (Spain). The complexities of today's world require that all people have the knowledge and skills to solve difficult problems, evaluate evidence, and know-how to analyze the information they receive from various media. It is necessary to prepare future generations in skills that allow them to adapt to the constantly changing society in which we live. Education must think about the future, create integral citizens who can form a great community. Needs change with age and its advancements. Therefore, it is proposed to present a future real integration of STEM education (Sciences, Technology, Engineering, and mathematics) in the classrooms but at the same time, we must be aware that we do not even have the necessary structures in the educational system or sufficient tools or adequate teacher training. The main objective of this work is to analyze educational policies in STEM studies in the European Union, placing special emphasis on girls to break the existing gender gap. To achieve this objective, the present work proposes a qualitative research design based on the documentary search destined to gather enough information to know in depth the most important aspects of the subject. A STEM literacy will help create a particular world where science plays a leading role. The type of education proposed is intended to break down barriers and create a perspective of equity and gender promoted by professionals in this field. In this way, the idea is to enable empowerment and overcoming stereotypes that, in the end, allow these professions to be seen without necessarily being promoted, guaranteeing fair access. We seek to fill the acronym STEM with great meaning.
