Design Of High Gain Dc-Dc Converter For Pmbldc Motor Based Vehicle Applications

Abstract

The demand of Electric Vehicle (EV) is growing in the recent days as it has the beneficial factors like eco- friendliness and low cost. In general, a charging port on an EV is used to draw the electric power from the external power source and to store in a battery pack.Because of the reliability and higher starting torque of the Permanent Magnet Brushless Direct Current (PMBLDC) motor, it is regarded as an apt choice for running an EV.The conventional PI controller is employed for regulating the speed of a PMBLDC motor,which uses the Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) driven inverter. The DC-DC converter is an important component for controlling the flow of the energy from battery to the PMBLDC motor in an EV or hybrid electric vehicle. Basically, the DC-DC converter is used to enhance the source voltagein a wider range for operating the EV.In this proposed work, the PMBLDC driveis energized by a solar-PV battery, which is driven by a traditional DC-DC boost converter. Though, the vehicle is driven by a motor, an inverter is required to connect the DC voltage with the PMBLDC motor.The entire process is simulated with MATLAB/ Simulink software, which aids in verifying the efficiency of the developed system.
