Efficient Choice Of Multilevel Converter Using Solar System

Published 2021-08-10

Abstract

MMCs are interesting options for grid-connected photovoltaic (PV) systems on a wide scale. These converters allow a direct linkage between the PV panel and sub-modules of the converter because of their modular form. With internal capabilities of power flow, the MMCs also provide scalability, autonomous tracking of maximum power point, and improved quality of power. In this paper an efficient approach for the adoption of MMC using solar PV system is proposed which controls the flow of power within the converter and injects a current which is balanced to the 3ɸ grid. It overcomes all imbalanced conditions of power with minimized distortions of harmonics and power fluctuations. P&O algorithm is adopted for efficient tracking of maximal power with rapid response. A PI controller along with PWM generator is exploited for simple controlling and regulation of voltage with minimum ratio of switching frequency. An LC filter is adopted for reducing dv/dt and voltage overshoot at the converter terminal with reduced switching harmonics. The simulations are performed in MATLAB/SIMULINK and improved waveforms are obtained at the output.
