An Empirical Study for Analyzing Consumer Perception on Solar Rooftop Grid for Home in Telangana By

Published 2021-07-26

Abstract

The Government of India has announced an ambitious milestone for 40 GW of rooftop solar capacity to be achieved by 2022. As of 2018, the same capacity was only 1,222 MW, i.e. below 5% of what is targeted by 2022 (Devi et al., 2018). There have been improvements in solar panel performance, favorable policies, availability of finance and regulatory frameworks, rooftop solar installation is yet to achieve momentum in the residential sector. Studies based on the causes of low uptake have found the issue of financial, institutional and technical grounds. It takes active involvement of customers to meet the targets of rooftop solar installations.

There are some important challenges that we need to overcome to improve consumer experience in solar rooftop grid installation, such as lack of clear information, lack of coordination in regulatory processes, and lack of proper financing options. It is vital to improve consumers’ experiences by involving several stakeholders and bottom-line initiatives, while protecting consumers’ interest and rights. So, it is very vital to analyze the consumer perception of the sector. This empirical study also analyzes and documents the consumer perception for installing solar rooftop grid at their homes over qualitative surveys in select cities in Telangana state.
